Mackems V The Toon: Tips Round-Up

10 Men Were Almost Better than Twelve…

Every week I give myself 100 points to place a few hypothetical bets on Newcastle and then another 100 points to place a few general football bets.

Things looked to be heading for a hard fought victory on Sunday until a fluky late goal for Sunderland denied us the three points.  My Newcastle tips still managed to make a profit, though.  This is how things turned out…

Bets on Newcastle…
Full Time Result:
20 points on Newcastle to win at 3.1 - LOSS
In the early stages of the match we looked by far the better team but unfortunately Tiote’s harsh sending off changed the pattern of the game.  Even with ten men we looked for a long time like we were going to hang on for all three points and it took a fluky late goal for Sunderland to deny us the victory.

Asian Handicap:
15 points on Newcastle +0.25 at 1.77 – WIN/PUSH – 21 points
This bet was on course to return 27 points until Sunderland’s fluky late goal, but still returned 21 points thanks to the bookies poor judgement in giving us a +0.25 headstart in the Asian Handicap market.

Last Goalscorer:
10 points on Shola Ameobi at 8.0 – LOSS
Unfortunately, Tiote’s controversial sending off meant that Shola was required to make way for Perch for the good of the team and so was unable to continue his record as the ‘Mackem Slayer.’

Half Time Result:
10 points on Newcastle at 3.6 – WIN 36 points

Half With Most Goals:
15 points on tie at 3.4 – WIN 51 points

Double Chance:
10 points on Newcastle or Draw at 1.55 –WIN 16 points

To Keep A Clean Sheet:
10 points on Newcastle – Yes at 3.4 - LOSS

To Score In Both Halves:
10 points on Newcastle to score in both halves at 4.0 - LOSS
Despite us being a man down, Ba had a couple of half-chances on the counter attack in the second half but wasn’t quite able to convert them.

Making an overall return of 124 points from 100 points and therefore an overall profit of 24 points.

General football bets…
QPR V Everton – Full Time Result:
20 points on Everton at 2.25 – LOSS

West Ham V Southampton – Full Time Result:
20 points on West Ham at 1.91 – WIN 38 points

Sheff Wed V Leeds - Full Time Result:
20 points on Leeds at 3.2 - LOSS

Crystal Palace V Millwall – Full Time Result:
20 points on Crystal Palace at 2.2 - LOSS

Tottenham V Chelsea – Asian Handicap:
10 points on Chelsea (+0) at 2.1 – WIN 21 points

Liverpool V Reading – Double Chance:
5 points on Reading or Draw at 3.4 - LOSS

West Brom V Man City – Double Chance:
5 points on West Brom or Draw at 2.15 - LOSS

Making an overall return of 59 points from 100 points and therefore an overall loss of 41points.

So far this season my Newcastle tips just have the edge over my general football tips, with the running totals standing at:
Newcastle tips – 3
General football tips – 2

As a final note, I just thought I would mention that there were absolutely loads of tweets on twitter from neutrals who reckoned Tiote's sending off should never have been a red card.  This is a tweet from @DavidKifford which I liked:

"Regardless of the Tiote incident, are we really classing shin-height as a "raised boot" these days? How exactly is someone supposed to run?"
