General Football Tips (04-06/05/13): Round-Up

One point won or two points dropped?

I think before the weekend if you'd offered us a draw then most fans would happily have taken a point.  However, Wigan's comeback against West Brom and Villa's win over Norwich, not to mention Cisse's 'goal' over the line which wasn't given meant there were mixed feelings on Saturday evening.

Frustratingly, the linesman Matthew Wilkes who fell over and didn't see Cisse's goal was the same linesman who, according to the FA, witnessed Callum NcManaman's potentially career threatening challenge on Haidara and decided it wasn't a foul.

SkyBet have us priced at 1/8 to stay up, so hopefully the players will show the same level of confidence going into our final two games.  For this and our final two matches I'm steering clear of bets on the Toon, but my general football tips made a slight profit this week.

General Football Tips:

Swansea V Man City - Half Time/Full Time:
20 points on Man City/Man City at 2.63 - LOSS

Tottenham V Southampton - First Goalscorer:
15 points on Gareth Bale at 4.0 - WIN 60 points

QPR V Arsenal - Half Time/Full Time:
25 points on Arsenal/Arsenal at 2.1 - WIN 53 points

Liverpool V Everton - Match Result:
25 points on Liverpool at 1.95 - LOSS

Man United V Chelsea - Match result:
15 points on Draw at 3.4 - LOSS

Making an overall return of 113 points of and therefore an overall profit of 13 points.

At the time of writing, SkyBet's current relegation odds are as follows:

Wigan - 1.91
Norwich - 4.0
Newcastle - 5.5
Sunderland - 9.0
Aston Villa - 29.0
Southampton - 34.0
Fulham - 51.0
Stoke - 81.0

Realistically, Fulham and Stoke would need a lot of results to go against them to be relegated, but Aston Villa still have to play Chelsea and Wigan, so you can't rule them out of it yet.

One interesting tool is the BBC Premier League Predictor which allows you to predict the results of the outstanding Premier League matches and calculate how things will turn out.  I tried it a few times using various permutations, and basically if we can get three points against QPR then even if we get nothing from the Arsenal game the odds on us staying up are still in our favour unless a long list of results go against us.

I'll be making another set of general football tips later in the week for the matches over the weekend of 11-12/05/13.
